Delhi, the capital city of India, has been shaped by hundreds of years of turmoil and trouble. There have been extensive plundering, but there have also being extensive construction and creation. Every traveler who lands in Delhi for the first time is struck by the diversity of its architecture, culture and people. This trip starts at Delhi and showcases many including some of the lesser visited spots of both Old and New Delhi. Moving on, you travel through the forests of Sariska, the center of camel trade at Pushkar and Ajmer, the city of the Sufi Saint Moinuddin Chisti. The desert state of Rajasthan is famed for its forts and palaces. From Jaipur, you get to visit some of the grandest palaces. Moving west ward, you reach Agra via Fathepur Sikri. The Taj Mahal is of course unparalleled in its grandeur and beauty. The white marble monument is a symbol of great love and devotion built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his queen Mumtaz Mahal. The complex is huge, as is the mausoleum itself. On your way back to Delhi you get to see another beautiful monument Sikandra where Emperor Akbar was buried.
This region is also rich in handicrafts like block printing, carpet weaving, marble work, blue pottery, etc. In the evenings you can visit such workshops to get a close look at the way these are done. Then there are the countless shopping options open to you throughout your trip as are the options to try different cuisines of north India. Day-1
• Arrive at Delhi International Airport and check into your hotel
Day-2(B)
• After breakfast sight seeing of New Delhi. We usually visit Qutub Minar, the 12th century 72.5mt high tower said to be the highest brick tower in the world, the beautiful white Lotus Temple, the meditation center of the Bahai people, the Emperor Humayun’s Tomb, a study in red sandstone with marble inlay work. We then drive past Rashtrapati Bhavan (resident of the President of India) and India Gate to Connaught Circus – the focal points of Luyten’s Delhi.
• You have the option to go shopping for India artifacts and fabric at Janpath.
• In the evening, Son e lumier show at Red Fort or Laser show at Purana Quila.
Day-3(B, L, D)
• After breakfast you leave for Sariska, check in at an ethnic resort at the foothills of the Aravalli, with rooms in the traditional style with mud walls decorated with colourful rangoli.
• After an Indian buffet lunch you can relax.
• In the afternoon we drive a short distance (15 min) to a huge 19th century manmade lake nestled between small hills called Silisehr. This ancient rainwater harvesting lake of 10.5sq km area supplies water to nearby towns even today. Sunset over the mountains is a spectacular sight and you have the option of enjoying a boat ride on the lake.
• Bonfire and buffet dinner makes an enjoyable evening at the resort

Day-4 (B)
• Wake up call at 6 and a cup of hot tea sets you ready for an early start at the Sariska Reserve Forest.
• The scrub forest at Sariska currently boasts limited tigers but a large variety of other animals and birds – like the Neelgai (the largest of Asiatic antelopes and of an unusual gray colour), the Cheetal (Spotted Deer), Sambar (the favourite catch of the tigers!), Peacocks, Orioles, Bablers, Partridges, various Kingfishes, Crocodilles (Mugger), Wild Boar, Jackals, etc – and a two hour jungle safari is sure to be really exciting!
• Breakfast at the resort and check out.
• Drive to Pushkar(5hrs), check into your Heritage Hotel
• This evening we take a stroll through the quaint lanes of this temple town.
Day-5 (B, L)
• After Breakfast drive (30 min) to Ajmer to see the tomb of Kwaja Moinuddin Chisti – the Sufi Saint revered by followers of all religion.
• Drive to see the ruins of Taragarh Fort – probably the oldest hill fort in India.
• Drive past the famous Mayo College and Nareli Jain Temple for photo shots on your way back to Pushkar.
• At Pushkar, get a feel of the uneven gait of the camel on a short camel ride.
Day-6 (B)
• After breakfast, check out and visit sites around Pushkar – the only temple in India dedicated to Lord Brahma (the Preserver of Life in Hindu Trinity), in marble and silver and the Pushkar lake near which the world famous Camel Fair is held in November.
• Drive to Jaipur (2hrs) and check in to your hotel)
• Half day sightseeing of Jaipur city – including the City Palace – a brilliant example of Rajasthani architecture.
• Rest of the day at leisure for shopping or visiting the local handicraft and handloom workshops
Day-7 (B, D)
• After breakfast we set out to see two of the best forts of the region – Amer or Amber Fort and the Jaigarh Fort.
• An early visit (within 10am) to Amer ensures a ride on an elephant to the gates of the fort. The 16th Century fort is adorned with delicate frescos and mirror work.
• Jaigarh or Victory Fort is perched on a hilltop and was designed to reinforce the defense of Amer and surrounding regions. Even on the top of the hill it had access to enough water through water harvesting channels, huge granaries and its own foundry for cannon making. Even today you can see “Jaivan”, believed to be the largest cannon in the world.
• This evening you will have a taste of traditional Rajasthani welcome and the special cuisine of the region. The experience is unforgettable. You can however choose to have a continental meal there instead.
Day-8(B)
• After breakfast drive to Fatehpur Sikri (apx 5hrs) – the famous fort city of Akbar that had to be abandoned for lack of water. See the world’s highest doorway (at 53+ mts) – the Buland Darwaza - and the intricately carved white marble mausoleum of Sufi Saint Sheikh Salim Chisti. If you are interested in migratory birds, instead of Fatehpur Sikri you can visit the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary in the months of November – January.
• Continue drive to Agra (1hr), check in at Hotel, evening at leisure, or visit the main market by cycle ricksaw. Dinner at your option.
Day-9(B)
• After breakfast we start our tour of the great city of Agra – the center of Mughal rule in Emperor Akbar’s rule.
• The 16th century red sandstone Agra Fort with its many palace, durbars(court rooms),gardens and a moat encircled wall reflect Persian and Indian architecture in a finely balanced coexistence.
• Carpets of Agra are famed for their fusing of Persian and Indian motifs – to get some unique designs and colours that please the eyes. You will visit the workshops and see how they are hand woven on looms.
• Visit the Marble factories making artifacts with inlays of various coloured stones.
• The Taj Mahal – it is best to form your own impression – when you see this magnificent marble marvel inlaid in semi precious stones of different hues. Late afternoon visit is scheduled to give you the special effect of evening at the Taj.
Day-10(B)
• After breakfast we drive back to Delhi (4hrs), with a stop at Sikandra (Emperor Akbar’s mausoleum) and check in to our hotel.
• Option of rest of the day at leisure or for shopping
Day-11 (B, D)
• Day of sightseeing – Old Delhi. We visit the Red Fort – built of red sand stone by the grandson of Akbar. The court of this fort is said to have held the famous Peacock throne which was later looted by invaders from the west. We also visit Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in Asia and Rajghat where Mahatma Gandhi is remembered.
• Check out for departure and enjoy a farewell dinner with your tour assistant.
